PEDAL POWER: Nonprofit empowers adults, kids by helping them build and ...

To Maurice Potts, bicycles were simply large toys, good for just riding around the neighborhood, with no destination in mind.

That was before the semi-retired doctor took a class two years ago to learn to build and repair bicycles at Back Alley Bikes, a nonprofit program in Detroit's Cass Corridor that teaches children and adults how to build their own bikes from scrap parts and do repairs.

There, Potts discovered that for many inner-city residents who don't have access to cars and can't afford public transportation, bikes are a tool, a necessity.

Suicide bomber strikes Shiite pilgrims in Iraq

The WWI may not have been a religious war, but WWII certainly was.

1. All the Fascist Axis (Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, even France) were Catholics, and had Pope's blessing
2. The Allies were Protestants (USA, UK, Netherlands etc.)
3. Both concurred on a Final Solution in the West (even for Canada 1 Jew was too many). Israel is a living proof
4. Fascist wantedHoly Victory (Sieg Heil). Revisionsts now say that they only meant Hail Victory
5. The tone of the movie Triumph of the Will is religious

That is understandable. The soul of the Modern Democratic West is anti-Jewish. Magna Carta contains 3 clauses limiting Jewish activities.

How does the WWII differ from the present unstated Sunni-Shia carnage? What confuses the Westerners is that in Islam religion is not separate from politics, in the West it is.

Frail admits time running out in Hearts' bid to make top six

We know how good a team Motherwell are and we know that they are one of the teams we are chasing," he said."If we go there and get the victory then it obviously helps us close the gap. There's still not a lot in it. Obviously people always look at the league positions but in terms of points it's really still quite close. We showed in the three games prior to the Celtic match what we are capable of and I think at Parkhead we still managed to play some good football."If we keep playing away and keep fighting for one another then we will win more games than we will lose and hopefully make it a better end to the season than maybe a lot of people thought it would be." .

Your Comments : FDB ends loan deal

We, further this IG or future Government should investigate ALL “kilavata loans" liberally given during the Qarase and Kaloumaira era. Not that these two fine gentlemen personally colluded in some of these dubious loans, but Political pressures asserted to the FDB Board by successive Governments have to be revisited!!

Especially, unsecured “dravata loans" guaranteed by Alliance MPs, certain NFP MPs, FLP MPs, Lawyers, Senior members of the Judiciary, Church Leaders, Fijian Holdings and NLTB Trust Department!!

Most loans deemed high risk at Commercial Banks are normally receiving a welcoming ceremony at FDB. May be check all interest of former and present FDB Board members, immediate family and friends.

We say, FDB like it's pioneer baby should primarily lend on the Agri Financing and other development of other Natural resources.

Environmental expert Harry Hollis

He has been active in environmental issues for more than 30 years. Please send your questions through the link at the top of this page. Harry, are you ready to get started? HARRY HOLLIS: Yes, I guess so. QUESTION: I know trees take in CO2 and produce oxygen. However, I have heard they are carbon neutral because they give the carbon back to the atmosphere when they die and decay. So planting trees will not help the greenhouse gas problem. Is this correct? William E Combs, Bloomfield HARRY HOLLIS: That's a difficult question to answer. I'm not sure that I can give you a very good answer, but trees do take CO2 out of the atmostphere. A mature tree, of course, takes more than will a smaller tree. What is necessary, in my opinion, is to plant more trees than we have now. At one time, the state of Indiana was 95% covered with forest, and now, it's 5% perhaps.

Science, symphonies mix with Alsop's 'CSI'

The project will explore diagnoses of the composer's hearing loss and a long list of physical ailments that made his last years especially difficult, from respiratory trouble to skin disorders.

Joining Alsop at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall for the examination will be two medical experts -- Dr. Philip A. Mackowiak, professor and vice chairman of the department of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Dr. Charles J. Limb, assistant professor of otolaryngology at the Johns Hopkins University.

"Beethoven is probably the most famous deaf person the world has ever known," Limb says. "Beethoven's hearing loss is the closest thing that classical music has to an urban legend. There is a tendency to romanticize it, but he hated it."

Expect the participants in the BSO program, including William Meredith, director of the Ira F.
